Gentleman Car: From Passion to Europe’s Shelby Reference
The history of Gentleman Car is inseparable from that of its founder, Philippe Médart. Raised in a modest family, he began his career at the age of 14 as an apprentice mechanic, developing a strong technical expertise from an early age.
In the 1990s, he launched his own business, initially specializing in Japanese 4x4s before importing American pickup trucks from the United States and Canada. He later became the first official Hummer importer outside the United States before focusing exclusively on collector automobiles following the 2009 financial crisis.
The turning point came with Shelby. Accompanied by Claude Dubois, former racing driver and Shelby specialist, Philippe met Carroll Shelby in Las Vegas. Within minutes, an agreement was reached: Gentleman Car became the official European importer of Shelby Continuation vehicles.
Together, they developed the European market and established the legitimacy of Shelby Continuation models, officially recognized by the Shelby American Automobile Club (SAAC) as genuine Shelby automobiles.
Today, based in Melen, near Liège, Belgium, Gentleman Car has become Europe’s leading Shelby specialist, combining technical expertise, American automotive culture and an unwavering passion for exceptional automobiles.
